Beginning on Monday, November 3, 2014, pilgrims from Immaculate Conception parish in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and elsewhere in eastern Iowa are traveling to Rome, Italy for a 10-day Catholic pilgrimage. The pilgrimage is focused primarily on Rome with a day trip to Assisi. We have a full, amazing itinerary ahead of us, and my plan is to document the journey via this blog, depending on available time and Internet access, of course.

Basilica di San Francesco
While in Assisi, we visited the magnificent Basilica of St. Francis! St. Francis is buried here, and the frescoes on the walls present the main events and miracles in Francis' life -- no photos allowed, but the basilica is a combination between medieval architecture and more modern renovation. Everything in Italy seems to be in a constant state of renovation!
