Beginning on Monday, November 3, 2014, pilgrims from Immaculate Conception parish in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and elsewhere in eastern Iowa are traveling to Rome, Italy for a 10-day Catholic pilgrimage. The pilgrimage is focused primarily on Rome with a day trip to Assisi. We have a full, amazing itinerary ahead of us, and my plan is to document the journey via this blog, depending on available time and Internet access, of course.

Basilica of St. Ambrose & St. Charles Borromeo
Also on Wednesday, 11/5, we visited the Basilica of St. Ambrose & St. Charles Borromeo and prayed in front of St. Charles' heart! Yes, his real heart - he is one of many saints whose body is incorrupt! Amazing! His feast day was November 4.
St. Charles was the archbishop (and eventually a cardinal) of Milan at a time when chaos ruled. He helped to bring about the successful conclusion to the Council of Trent in 1563, and this was the year he was ordained a priest & bishop. In addition to being untiring in reforming the Church and especially his archdiocese, St. Charles was also a humble man. Check out these photos.
