Here you see Iowa Catholic pilgrims going up the 28 Holy Stairs on their knees at the Scala Santa on Friday afternoon. The Holy Stairs are the steps to Pontius Pilate's praetorium that Jesus climbed to be put on trial. This amazing relic (which is too holy to go up on one's feet) was brought to Rome by St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine in the 4th century.
