Sistine Chapel

After the Vatican Museum and Gardens, we made it to the Sistine Chapel! Breathtaking! Unfortunately, they do not allow photos, videos, or even talking! And they remind you of this constantly in Italian and English! 

So I'll include a couple of photos off the Internet to give you a little idea of what we saw.

This is the view looking towards the altar where Mass is said in the chapel with Michelangelo's Last Judgment on the wall behind it. Notice the side walls also have a series of detailed paintings! Just about every inch is covered in art!

This is the elaborate ceiling! It's hard to imagine a human being conceiving of such elaborate work, much less bringing it to fruition! If you can click it and enlarge it, study it. There's so much there. We got a partial explanation, but it's too much to share here. Michelangelo was a genius!
