Vatican Museum and Vatican Gardens

We started the day (11/7/14) at the Vatican Museum and the Vatican Gardens. 

The Vatican Gardens (Italian: Giardini Vaticani) are private urban gardens and parks which cover more than half of the Vatican territory in the South and Northeast. 

The gardens cover approximately 57 acres, which is most of the Vatican Hill. Stone walls bound the area in the north, south and west. The gardens and parks were established during the Renaissance and Baroque era and are decorated with fountains and sculptures.

We weren't able to tour the gardens, but we saw some of them from above.


The Vatican Museum was amazing as we saw wall-to-ceiling tapestries, Greek and Roman sculptures, mosaics, and incredible paintings! And we saw just a fraction of what's there. Here's a sample:
